How to use the NGN Assessment Maker builder

Build a Next-Gen NCLEX quiz, step by step

  1. Set up the quizOn the Build tab, fill in Quiz settings — the quiz title and any shared instructions.
  2. Add a questionUnder Questions, click + Add question, then pick a Question type in the editor — multiple choice, select-all, matrix, drop-down cloze, highlight, drag-fill, bow-tie, ordered response, fill-in-the-blank/calculation, hot spot, and more.
  3. Write it outEnter the question stem, the answer choices, and mark the correct answer(s). Add a rationale so students see an answer key in Preview and Instant Feedback.
  4. Add a chart/exhibit (optional)Attach a chart or exhibit panel to a question when you want students to reference it while answering.
  5. Add more questionsClick + Add question again for each one. Reorder or delete them from the Questions list.
  6. Set the assessment options (optional)Back in Quiz settings, choose whether to shuffle questions, give each student a random subset, run a secure assessment, or set a Timer. With a timer on, students see the time remaining count down, get a pop-up warning at 5 minutes left, and the assessment submits itself when time runs out.
  7. Try each modeUse the tabs to try the quiz: Preview (interactive with answer key), Instant Feedback (rationale after each answer), and Assessment (graded, no answer key).
  8. Publish & shareClick Save to shared library to save the quiz — then click Get student link to copy a link students open with no login (Preview, Instant Feedback, or graded Assessment).
Tip: Save to the shared library first — it gives you a short, editable link. Editing a saved quiz updates it in place, so the student links you already shared keep working.
